ATLANTA, Ga. - Three Paine College baseball players were named to the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference preseason baseball teams announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Junior pitcher/infielder
Anthony Ellis (Atlanta, GA) earned first-team Preseason All-SIAC honors, while sophomore outfielder
Jaylan Davis (Jacksonville, FL) and junior infielder
John Hayes (Atlanta, GA) picked up second-team honors.
Ellis earned 2019 All-SIAC honors after leading the Lions in batting with a .363 average. He also led the team in hits with 49, drove in 25 runs, five triples, scored 28 runs and was tied for the team lead with nine doubles.
Davis had a tremendous freshman season in 2019 as he finished second on the team with a .330 batting average, and doubles with nine, while leading the team in slugging at .505 and runs scored with 30. Davis also swiped a team leading 20-of-25 bases.
Hayes had a breakout junior season after batting .455 in only 44 at bats and a .568 in slugging. He finished with 20 hits, five doubles, 11 runs scored and seven RBI.
The Lions open the season this Sunday, February 2, as they welcome the University of Virginia's College at Wise to Augusta for a double-header starting at noon.
