Paine Splits With Albany State

ALBANY, Ga. – The Paine College softball team split a doubleheader at Paine Tuesday afternoon, winning 5-3 before falling 4-3.

The Lady Lions are now 2-6 on the season.

Trailing 2-0 in the first game, Paine College knotted the score in the sixth stanza.

Leidy Garcia was hit by a pitch and moved to second on Leticia Y. Omori's base hit. Destiny Lawrence's single loaded the bases. Brionna King pulled the visitors within one on a base knock to left field. Moments later, Jakiyra Lemmon singled in Omori, making it 2-2.

In the seventh, Garcia earned a two-out walk and trotted home on Omori's two-run blast. Two batters later, King doubled in Lawrence, who had singled to center field for a 5-2 lead. The Lady Lions gave up a run in the seventh but forced a groundout to end the game.

For the game, King, Lawrence and Omori tallied two hits apiece. Garcia and Omori each crossed home twice. King and Omori each drove in two.

In the circle, Montana Cagle threw a complete game to get the victory.

Lawrence got things going in the second game with a single to center field that scored Garcia and Omori.

Tied at 2-2 after the first inning, Ayovi registered a one-out single to shortstop. She swiped second moments later. Omori's double to left field pushed Ayovi across home for a 3-2 edge.

The Golden Rams scored two runs in the bottom of the third for a 4-3 advantage.

In the top of the seventh, Paine tried to knot the score. With two down, Garcia beat out a grounder and moved to third on an error. However, a fielder's choice ended the game.

For the game, Ayovi notched two this and scored twice. Lawrence had a pair of RBI. Lawrence threw a complete game and had a strikeout in the loss.

The Lady Lions return to action Saturday when they host Columbia International in a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
