AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Paine College softball team split a doubleheader against Benedict Tuesday afternoon, winning the first game 13-5 before falling 12-10 in the nightcap.
The Lady Lions are now 6-21 on the campaign.
Paine led 1-0 after the first inning. Trailing 2-1, the Lady Lions plated seven runs over the next two innings. UP 8-4, the home team tacked on five runs in the fourth en route to the mercy-rule victory.

Emmy Segura and
Montana Cagle had two hits apiece. Cagle drove in four runs while
Katherine Sugilio drove in three. Omori knocked in two runs while Segura led the way with three runs scored.
Jakiyra Lemmon and
Kamari Blackmon crossed home twice apiece.
Cagle picked up the victory while Omori struck out six.
In game two, Benedict scored five runs in the seventh inning and held on for a 12-10 victory.
Omori and Sugilio posted three hits apiece while Segura had two hits. Omori drove in four runs and scored four times.
Dara Ayovi also crossed home twice in the loss.
Omori struck out one in 2.2 innings while Cagle took the loss. She struck out three in 4.1 innings of work.
