Coach Zack Howard is no stranger to Paine College athletics, having been involved with the program since the SIAC started sponsoring volleyball and softball. Howard enters his 26th season as assistant volleyball coach and his second season as head softball coach for the Lady Lions. Prior to becoming Head Softball Coach, Howard served as Assistant Softball Coach.

Howard has been instrumental in skills and player development for volleyball and softball. Several of his players have received all-conference honors in both sports.
Although the Lady Lions had a difficult 2011 season with an 8-27 overall record, he is optimistic about this year’s class of recruits. “Last year was tough,” said Howard, “but this year we expect to be much more competitive within the SIAC Conference.”

Zack is a 1971 graduate of historic Lucy Craft Laney High School. After graduating, Coach Howard played volleyball for the United States Volleyball association for 12 years, and he also played on the Southeastern & Palmetto Men’s fast pitch traveling softball team. The softball team was the only black traveling league at that time, and Coach Howard filled the position of pitcher for 12 years.

Zack is married to Latisha Howard, has two children: Zack Jr. and LaKia, and is the son of the late Georgia State Representative Henry Howard.
