Jose Taitague is in his fourth year at Paine College and his third as the head softball coach.
Taitague began his tenure with the softball program in the fall of 2020.
In 2024, his team finished seventh in the NCCAA in home runs and slugging percentage, ninth in batting average and 10th in doubles.Â
Taitague guided the Lady Lions to the NCCAA World Series in 2023, marking the first time in school history. En route to the NCCAA World Series, Taitague led the program to a pair of wins over No. 1 Carolina University to clinch the program’s first-ever regional championship.Â
Off the field, Taitague’s teams are equally impressive. His team had the highest GPA in athletics back-to-back seasons. In 2023, his squad won the Team Leadership Award.Â
Taitague was an assistant coach with the Dominican Republic Women’s National Team in 2024, helping the team win the bronze medal in the Bolivianos Games.
Taitague coached the Augusta Eagles baseball team from 2016-20. He coached at Complete Game (2019-21). Taitague, who played club volleyball at UGA, also coached club volleyball at Metro Elite (2020-21).Â
Born in Guam, Taitague grew up in Grovetown, Ga., and graduated from Grovetown H.S. in 2012. Coming from a military family, Taitague’s father spent 15 years in the Army.
