AUGUSTA, Ga. (Women's Basketball) – The Paine College women's basketball team opened their season with a huge win over Tuskegee University, 85-53.The Lady Lions move to 1-0 on the season while the Tigerettes move to 0-1.
Guard
Ashley Watts led Paine with a prolific performance against Tuskegee. She went 13 of 25 from the field for 36 points.
Lashonda Canty and Brianna Simms each had eight rebounds for the night. Watts and Simms also had four assists in the win.
As a team, Paine finished the night 47.6 percent from the field, 44 rebounds and three blocks.
For the Tigerettes, Vanessa Akra led the way with 14 points while Rachel Brownlee backed her up with 13 points. Cheyanne Williams was the leading rebounder with nine.
As a team, Tuskegee ended the night 22.4 percent from the field, 38 rebounds, and three blocks.
The Lady Lions go on the road this weekend to face the Arkansas Tech on Nov. 23 at 2 p.m. in Russellville, Ark. and Delta State University on Nov. 25 at 7 p.m. in Cleveland, Miss.
