COLUMBIA, S.C. (Women's basketball) – The Paine College women's basketball team went on the road on Saturday and were defeated by Benedict College, 56-39.
With the loss, the Lady Lions drop to 6-13 overall, and 4-7 in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. The Tigerettes move to 15-4 overall and 10-1 in league play.
Aalyiha Wright led Paine with nine points and she was followed by
Brianna Sims with seven. Sims was also the leading rebounder with eight.
Lasharon Salahuddin led the Lions in assists with two and in steals with five.
As a team, Paine finished the night 34 rebounds, 13 steals, and four assists. The Lady Lions were 24.6 percent from the field, 11.1 percent from the arc, and 62.5 percent from the free throw line.
Benedict was led by KaDeeja Vaughn with 12 points. Britenique Harrison and Ta'Naria Chisley followed her with 10 points. Destiny Betts led the Tigerettes in rebounds with 15. Benedict was led by Tia Rankin in assists with four. Harrison had the lone block of the night. Chisley led the team in steals with five.
As a team, Benedict finished the night with 54 rebounds, 15 steals, and 13 assists. The Tigerettes were 35.5 percent from the field, 37.5 percent from the arc, and 42.9 percent from the free throw line.
The Lady Lions will return to action on Thursday, Feb. 5 in the HEAL Complex as they face Claflin University at 5:30 p.m.
