ORANGEBURG, S.C. (Women's Volleyball) – The Lady Lions fought valiantly were defeated by Claflin University on the road in Orangeburg, S.C. on Monday night. The match was lost in three sets with scores of 25-18, 25-15, and 25-15.
Paine drops to 5-5 in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play and 10-7, overall. The Lady Panthers improve to 8-2 in league play and even out their overall record to 8-8.
Claflin was led by Brianna Garvin and Bria Bronston with 15 kills each. Sonia Rosales accounted for a game high 40 assists. Defensively, Jhi Piper-Murles had seven digs for the match. Jordan Wallace had two solo blocks. Alexcia Herring accumulated five service aces.
Collectively, the Lady Panthers finished the night with 44 kills, 41 assists, 32 digs, 11 service aces, and eight team blocks.
Lydia Elmore led the way for the Lady Lions with five kills.
Totyanna Corbitt and
Kayla Lewis each accounted for six assists.
Caprice Lockett was the defensive leader for Paine with seven digs.
Tiera Daugherty proved her serving prowess with three service aces.
As a team, Paine finished the night with 22 digs, 18 kills, 14 assists, seven service aces, and three team blocks.
The Lady Lions return home to face Albany State University on Thursday at 6 p.m. in the HEAL Complex.
