DOTHAN, Ala. (Men's Basketball) – The Paine College Lions basketball team travelled to face the Troy University Trojans on Thursday. The Paine men fought hard but were defeated by Troy, 85-77.
With the loss, Paine drops to 2-8, overall, and the Trojans move to 5-5.
The Lions were led by
Denzel Dillingham with 19 points. Dillingham was followed by
Patrick Petty and
Kaderious Compton with 10 points each.
Christian Nobles was the initiator for Paine's offense with four assists. Dillingham recorded a team high seven rebounds. Nobles had a nose for the ball as she came up with four steals.
Don Quarles accounted for the lone Lions block of the night.
Collectively, Paine finished the game with 35 rebounds, 13 assists, eight assists, and one block. The team was 41.4 percent from the field, 12.5 percent from the arc and 70.8 percent from the free throw line.
Wesley Person was the point leader for Troy with 28 points. Person was followed by John Walton, III with a double – double of 22 points and a team high 19 rebounds. The assist leader for the Trojans was B.J. Miller with four assists. Jordon Varnado accounted for two blocks.
As a team, the Trojans finished the night with 42 rebounds, 15 assists, seven steals, and three blocks. The team was 45.3 percent from the field, 27.3 percent from three point range, and 73.8 percent from the stripe.
The Lions return to action against Livingstone College as they host the Blue Bears in the HEAL Complex on Dec. 18 at 7:30 p.m.
