AUGUSTA, Ga. (Women's Basketball) – The Paine College women's basketball team hosted the Tuskegee Lady Golden Tigers on Monday in the HEAL Complex. The Lady Lions dominated Tuskegee and won a resounding 79-59 victory.
With the win, Paine improves to 5-8, overall, 3-4 in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play and the Lady Golden Tigers drop to 1-11, overall, and 0-4 in league play.
Ashley Watts was the leader for Lady Lions with a 22 point and eight rebound performance. Watts was followed by
Janisha Wilkerson with a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Aalyiha Wright also hit the boards hard for Paine recording 10 rebounds.
Chasity Mullins recorded six steals.
Collectively, Paine finished the game with 50 rebounds, 25 assists, 15 steals and nine blocks. The team was 49.2 percent from the field, 30.8 percent from the arc and 61.9 percent from the free throw line.
Kierra Ward was the leader for Tuskegee with 15 points. Ward was followed by Rachel Brownlee with 14 points and nine rebounds. Jesslyn Mahone accounted for a team-high four assists.
As a team, the Lady Golden Tigers finished the night with 32 rebounds, 13 assists, 15 steals, and two blocks. The team was 30.2 percent from the field, 25 percent from three point range, and 53.6 percent from the stripe.
The Lady Lions continue home action in the HEAL Complex as they face Albany State University on Jan. 14 at 5:30 p.m.
