Lions Almost Pull Magic Trick Against LeMoyne-Owen, Drop Game, 97-93

Memphis, Tenn. (Men's Basketball) – The Paine College men's basketball team traveled to face the LeMoyne-Owen College Magicians on Thursday and put on a game for the ages. The Lions hung in the game against LeMoyne-Owen in spite of only having six players and playing man down in the last few minutes of the contest. However, late game fouls and a momentum swing would be the undoing of the Lions and lead to their defeat, 97-93.

With the loss, Paine drops to 4-12, overall, 1-5 in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play and the Magicians move to 8-6, overall, and 5-0 in league play.

Kaderious Compton had a breakout game with 30 points. Arnis Libazs proved to be the leader for Paine with a double-double of 23 points and a team-high 13 rebounds, and one block. Newcomer Christian Nobles showed his talent on the court with a 29 points and five assist performance. Patrick Petty proved to have a nose for the ball as he came up three steals.

Collectively, Paine finished the game with 39 rebounds, 19 assists, eight steals and one blocks. The team was 40 percent from the field, 48.3 percent from the arc and 67.9 percent from the free throw line.

Justin Street was the leader for LeMoyne-Owen with a 30 points. Street was followed by Rashawn Brown with 21 points and Johnnie McGhee with 19 points, four steals and eight assists. Not to be outdone, Larry McGaughey recorded 18 points, a team-high 11 rebounds, and three blocks.

As a team, LeMoyne-Owen finished the night with 47 rebounds, 25 assists, nine steals, and eight blocks. The team was 50 percent from the field, 25 percent from three point range, and 66.7 percent from the stripe.

The Lions return home to the HEAL Complex to face Tuskegee University on Jan. 11 at 7:30 p.m.
