AUGUSTA, Ga. (Women's Basketball) – The Paine College Lady Lions basketball team hosted the Benedict College Lady Tigers in their final game of the season on Saturday afternoon. The game also served as a farewell for Lady Lions seniors. The Lady Lions fought hard but were defeated, 67-52,
The Lady Lions finish the regular season 8-14, overall, and 5-10 in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. Benedict finishes the season 24-2, overall, and 14-2 in league play.
Senior
Delisia Sharpe led Paine in scoring with 12 points. Sharpe was followed by
Aalyiha Wright with eight points.
Janisha Wilkerson hit the boards hard for the Lady Lions recording eight rebounds and three blocks. Paine's assists leader for the night was senior
Ashley Watts with six assists.
The Lady Lions finished the game with 34 rebounds, nine assists and eight steals. The team was 22.4 percent from the field, 16.7 percent from three point range, and 79.3 percent from the free throw line.
The Lady Tigers were led by KaDeeja Vaughn with 12 points and Regime McCombs with 11 points. Terri Jacobs and Destiny Betts were the rebound leaders with 10 and 11, respectively. Betts recorded two blocks. Kari Jones had a nose for the ball with three steals.
Benedict finished the night with 60 rebounds, 10 steals, eight assists, and five blocks. The team was 31.7 percent from the field, 22.2 percent from the arc, and 69.4 percent from the stripe.
Paine returns to action in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Basketball Tournament on Feb. 29 – March 5, 2016 in Birmingham, Ala.
