Lady Lions Drop Series to Ft. Valley, 2-1

AUGUSTA, Ga. (Softball) – The Paine College Lady Lions (1-9, 1-5 SIAC) faced off against Fort Valley State University (2-12, 1-2 SIAC) in a weekend series that started on Friday afternoon at Laney High School field. Paine was able to pick up the first game, 10-3, and dropped the doubleheader on Saturday, 14-5 and 7-2.

In game one, the Lady Lions were able to capitalize on Fort Valley's mistakes and take a definitive 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. The game was sealed by Ashandria Henry hitting a double and driving in herself and Maya Field, 7-3.

Henry had the biggest bat for the game one with four at bats for three runs, two hits, and two runs batted in.

De'Jour Davis picked up the win for the Lady Lions with a complete game. She finished the game with seven hits, three runs, three walks and five strikeouts.

For FVSU, Alexis Spires-Neff got the loss with a six inning pitched for nine hits, 10 runs, two walks, and four strike outs.

The Lady Wildcats won game two against Paine as they made critical play sin certain situations. Fort Valley jumped out to a 5-3 lead in the top of the second inning and never looked back. The Lady Lions could not keep up, scoring only one run in both the third and fourth inning.

Jasmine Hinds got the loss for Paine with four innings pitched for eight hits, 10 runs, five walks and three strikeouts.

The winning pitcher was Alexis Spires-Neff, who pitched five innings for five hits, two runs, one walk and four strikeouts.

In the final game, the Lady Lions tried to mount a comeback in the bottom of the third inning when Rickary Holloman and Field scored, 4-2. Ft. Valley responded with one run in the sixth inning and two in the seventh inning, 7-2.

Davis caught the loss on the mound for Paine with a complete game pitched. She finished the game with 11 hits, seven runs, two walks and six strikeouts.
Spires-Neff was the winning pitcher for FVSU with 4.1 inning pitched for four hits, no runs, one walk and four strikeouts.

The Lady Lions will resume play on Wednesday, March 17 – 19, as they head to the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Crossover in Jasper, Ala.
