BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (Women's Basketball) – The Paine College women played in the second round of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Basketball Tournament against Benedict College on Monday afternoon. The Lady Lions hung in there with the Lady Tigers but were defeated, 68-55.
The loss ends Paine's season with record of 10-19 and eliminates them from tournament play. Benedict advance to the semi-final round and improve their record to 25-2.
The Lady Lions were led by
Chasity Mullins with 16 points and two steals. Mullins was followed by
Aalyiha Wright with 13 points, a team-high six rebounds and two blocks.
Ashley Watts kept the table set for Paine with five assists.
Collectively, Paine finished the game with 35 rebounds, nine assists, five steals, and seven blocks. The team was 30.5 percent from the field, 18.2 percent from the arc, and 70.8 percent from the free throw line.
Regime McCombs and Terri Jacobs were the leaders for Benedict with 18 points and 16 points, respectively. Jacobs recorded a game-high 17 rebounds and a team-high four assists and three steals.
As a team, the Lady Tigers finished the game with 62 rebounds, eight assists, and five steals. The team was 27.4 percent from the field, 26.9 percent from the arc, and 75 percent from the free throw line.
