ORANGBURG, S.C. - The Paine College men's basketball team was overwhelmed by the Panthers, 95-53, Saturday afternoon at the Tullis Arena on the campus of Claflin University.
The Lions drop to 1-15, 0-10 SIAC while CU improves to 12-5, 7-2 SIAC.
PC got off to a good start and led Claflin 12-7 at the first media timeout, but the Panthers would turn-up their defensive intensity the rest of the half leading by as many as 31 points before going into the locker rooms with a 52-21 lead. The Lions were more competitive in the second half, but still couldn't withstand the Panther attack on both ends of the floor and eventually fell to CU by a 42 point margin.
Junior guard,
Malcom Whittington, led Paine with 17 points and six rebounds, while
Kaderious Compton has a 14 point effort. The Lions turned the ball over 24 times to Claflins seven, while getting out-rebounded 39-24 by CU.
The Panthers were led by Benjamin Williams who finished with a game-high 20 points while Ryan McNeill-Moses finished with eight points and six rebounds.
Paine returns to action this Thursday, February 2nd, as they travel east to take on the Panthers of Clark Atlanta University at 8 p.m.
