AUGUSTA, Ga. - The Paine College men's basketball team fell in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action to the Tigers of Benedict College 66-54 on Monday evening in the HEAL complex.
The lost drops the Lions to 1-17 overall and winless in the SIAC with a 0-12 record while BC improves to 13-7 overall and 10-3 in conference play.
Benedict led the entire way and had their biggest lead mid-way through the second half at 44-28. Paine would try to claw back, but would not get closer than a 10 point deficit at 44-34 with 9:01 remaining in the ball game.
PC got strong back court play from junior guard,
Malcom Whittington, who finished with 20 points including connecting on 4-of-7 from behind the arc. The only other scorer in double-figures was senior forward
Kaderious Compton who ended the night with 12 points. The Lions shot 38.9 (21-of-54) percent from the floor but allowed the Tigers to control the boards by at 41-26 margin.
Reigning SIAC Player of the Week, Brandon Morris continued to dominate as he finished with a double-double, 24 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman center, Umar Frost, also finished with a double-double tallying 11 points and 11 rebounds in the victory.
Paine College returns to action this Thursday for the PINKZONE game versus Claflin Univeristy at 7:30 p.m. in the HEAL Complex. Fans are encouraged to show their support for the fight against breast cancer by wearing PINK.
