AUGUSTA - The Paine College volleyball team dropped their season opener to Allen University, 3-1 (25-16, 25-21, 23-25, 25-21), in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon at the HEAL Complex.

The Lady Lions start the season (0-1) while the Lady Yellow Jackets improved to (4-2).

After going down by two sets, PC stayed alive by winning the third set. In the fourth set Paine got off to a good start leading 5-0. The teams would go back and forth for most of the set before the Lady Lions allowed AU to tie the game at 19-19. Allen would close out the match on a 6-2 rally for the win.

Freshman Lanica Phillips (Detroit, Mich.) amassed 12 kills, seven assist and nine digs while freshman Shavonne Boggs (Tampa, Fla.) added 8 kills for Paine. Freshman Aleaha Faulk (Villa Rica, Ga.) finished with a team-high 12 assist.

Senior Totyanna Corbitt (Orangeburg, S.C.) led the way defensively with 23 digs and fellow senior Mikalia Wallace (Brunswick, Ga.) finished with three blocks.

PC returns to action this Tuesday as they host the USC-Aiken at 7 p.m. in the HEAL Complex.
