Cross Country Opens Season At Carolina Challenge

COLUMBIA -
The Paine College cross country teams opened the 2017 season at the Carolina Challenge hosted by the University of South Carolina, Saturday morning in Columbia, South Carolina, with the women finishing ninth while the men finished in 10th place.

For the women, freshman Diamond Lopez (Fort Walton Beach, Fla.) was the top finished for the Lady Lions with a 48th place finish in a time of 22:05.1. Her teammates Nikeela Rasool (Atlanta, Ga.) finished 78th overall with a time of 24:41.2 while Jakayla RIchmond (Orlando, Fla) finished 76th in a time of 25:30.4 and Catera McBean (Savannah, Ga.) with a time of 26:28.0. Keyla King (Mobile, Ala.) with a time of 34:59.1 and Chayla Hobbs (Jacksonville, Fla.) in a time of 35:10.6 were the last to runners to cross the line for PC.

For the men, freshman Taajon Pearson (Jacksonville, Fla.) was the top finisher for the Lions crossing the line at 19:46.3. Sophomore Roy Hoewicher (Orlando, Fla.) followed him in a time of 21:05.0 and freshman Jogimio Faustin (Orlando, Fla.) came in at 21:10.8.

Junior Marvin Sims (Jacksonville, Fla.) finished over the line at 22:30.6 while freshman's Jonathan Johnson (Atlanta, Ga.) came in at 23:51.8 and Alden Wheeler (Atlanta, Ga.) at 24:08.5.

PC returns to action next Saturday, September 9th, as they compete in the Jaguar Cross Country Invite hosted by Augusta University.
