AUGUSTA, Ga. - The Paine College men's basketball team dropped its season opener to Flagler College, 94-43, on Saturday afternoon at the HEAL Complex.
PC starts the season 0-1 while the FC improved to 3-3 on the year.
Senior guard
Charles Moore was the only Lion to score in double-figures as he dropped a team-high 15 points and two rebounds, while junior transfer
Keyon Faulkner-Smith scored six points and had three steals.
The Saints were led by Damerit Brown who had a game-high 31 points on 12-of-20 shooting and Allante Pickens who chipped in with 23 points.
Team Stats
- Paine connected on just 14-of-58 (24.1 percent) from the field, while Flagler hit 38-of-69 (55.1 percent)
- The Lions forced 17 Saint turnovers, while Flagler converted 21 Paine Turnovers to 29 points
- PC drained 12-of -18 shots from the charity strip while FU only took five free-throws connecting on two of them
- Paine was out-rebounded 38-23 but pulled down one more offensive rebound 10-9
First Half
- Paine scored the first basket of the game on a three-pointer by Faulkner Smith
- The Lions led 9-8 with 17:39 remaining in the half
- With Flagler leading 13-11 they went on a 18-2 run to take a 31-13 lead with 8:18 remining in the half
- PC shot just 6-of-32 (18.8 percent)
- Paine committed 10 turnovers
- The Lions into the into the half trailing 44-20
Second Half
- Paine allows Flagler to shoot 21-of-32 (65.6 percent) in the second half
- PC assisted on only two of their eight baskets
- The Lions were outscored 28-4 in the paint and 14-2 on fast breaks
- Neither team had a block in the second half
Paine College will return to action when it travels up the road to face USC-Aiken on Monday night Nov. 25. The contest will tipoff at 7:30 p.m.
