BIRMINGHAM, AL - The #5E seeded Cinderella Paine College Lions men's basketball team picked up their second upset of the 2019 SIAC Basketball Tournament by defeating #1E Morehouse 53-49 in the quarterfinals on Wednesday evening in Bill Harris Arena in
Birmingham, Alabama.
The Lions took control of the game early and went into the locker rooms with a 30-22 halftime lead. The Maroon Tigers forced turnover after turnover in the first six minutes of the second half going on a 13-0 run and taking a 35-30 lead with 14:02 remaining in the game.
Paine closed out the game on a 23-14 run for the five point victory.
Sophomore forward
Cameron Gaines had a game-high 13 points and six rebounds while senior's
Khalen Pinkett had 12 points and
Joshua Holliday finished with 10 points.
Omar Alston finished with a double-double for Morehouse College with 10 points and 12 rebounds in the losing effort.
The Lions advance to the semifinals and will take on the winner of tomorrow nights #2W LeyMoyne-Owen and #3E Clark Atlanta game on Friday, March 1 at 8:45 p.m. EST.
