ROCK HILL, S.C. - The 7E seeded Paine College Lions advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2020 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament with an upset victory over the 2W seeded Tuskegee University, 78-73, on Tuesday evening in the Rock Hill Sports and Events Center.
Paine was led by sophomore guard
Marckel McCollum (Atlanta, GA) who finished with a team-high 17 points while freshman guard
Bryce Latimer (Atlanta, GA) 15 points and five assist. Senior center
Deshawndric Nelms had 14 points and seven rebounds while
Keon Williams chipped in with 10 points.
The Golden Tigers were led by Gregg Boyd who finished with a game-high 29 points and Myles Thomas who ended up with 19 points and nine boards.
Team Stats
- Paine connected on 22-of-45 (48.9 percent) from the field, while the Tuskegee struggled from the floor hitting on only 26-of-67 (38.8 percent).
- PC was outstanding from the charity strip sinking 28-of-30 free throws.
- The Lions were out-rebounded 32-27
- Paine committed 23 turnovers to Tuskegee's 18

- McCollum and Nelms led the Lions scoring eight points each

- Paine was a perfect 12-of-12 from the charity strip

- The Lions outscored the Golden Tigers 44-40
- Paine went on 16-of-18 from the foul line
- McCollum and Latimer led PC with nine points each
- McCollum was a perfect 6-of-6 late the the game to seal the victory
The Lions advance to the quarterfinals to face the 3E seeded Maroon Tigers of Morehouse College on Thursday, March 5. Tip is set for 7:45 p.m.
