\FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The Paine College men's basketball team lost a 59-51 decision at Fort Valley State Friday evening.
The Lions are now 2-3 on the season while FVSU improves to 1-3.
Nate Adams led the way with a double-double performances. He accounted for 21 points on seven-of-16 shooting to go along with 12 rebounds and a pair of steals.
Quinnton Jackson totaled 11 points, five assists, five rebounds and two thefts.
Jakobe Williams added nine points and two assists.
Calvin Johnson snagged seven rebounds while Kevin Johnson and
Cooper Smith added six boards apiece.
Down 3-2, Adams took a pass from Jackson for a la-up. Jackson added two free throws moments later for a 6-3 edge. Adams netted the next five points for the visitors for an 11-6 advantage.
Up 11-9, Adams netted a three-ball and hit a free throw moments later for a 15-9 score. Jackson went coast-to-coast with a steal and lay-up. Thirty seconds later, Jackson buried a jumper for a 10-point margin. Up 19-11, Adams found the bottom of the net for five straight points and what turned out to be the tam's largest lead at 24-11.
Down 30-29, Adams made two free throws with 58 seconds to play in the half. Williams and Jackson netted the final four points of the period for a 35-30 margin at the break.
The back-and-forth second half saw the Lions take a 42-41 lead on a lay-up by
Stephon Auguste, but it would be the last time the visitors would be in front. FVSU was able to maintain a slim margin the rest of the way en route to the eight-point win.
For the game, Paine College hit 19-of-65 from the floor (29.2 percent). The squad registered 30 points in the paint and had 12 points on the break.
The Lions return to action Tuesday when they host Claflin at 7:30 p.m.
