TOCCOA FALLS, Ga. – Three Paine College women's basketball student-athletes registered double digits in the season-opening 73-62 loss at Toccoa Falls.
Head coach
Kisha Lucette's team was led by
Adewunmi Atiba's 17 points and seven rebounds.
Ashley Rubio totaled 13 points and seven rebounds while
Jada Brooks netted 15 points.
Neani Stewart chipped in eight points, including two-of-three from downtown.
Brooks,
Jada Mullinex and Stewart registered three steals apiece.
After being outscored 17-9 in the opening period, Lucette's squad bounced back to make it a 33-30 game at the break after outscoring the home team 21-16 in the second quarter.
However, Toccoa Falls held a 19-13 edge in the third frame. Although the Lady Lions played the home squad tight in the final period, it was not enough.
For the game, Paine College hit 18-of-59 from the floor (30.5 percent). The team reached the charity stripe 42 times, connecting on 23 attempts.
The Lady Lions return to action Saturday when they play at Benedict at 2 p.m.
