Jackson Nets 30 In Win At Trinity Baptist

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.Quinnton Jackson led everyone with 30 points as Paine College rolled to a 75-61 win over Trinity Baptist Saturday night.

The Lions improve to 2-1 on the year.

Johnson connected on 12-of-20 field goals, including three-of-six from downtown, and canned three free throws for his season-high effort. Calvin Johnson and Jakobe Williams netted 12 points apiece while Nate Adams chipped in 11 markers in the victory.

Adams and Kelvin Johnson snagged eight rebounds apiece. Johnson also registered three steals while Adams and Jackson had two steals apiece.

For the game, Paine College hit 31-of-64 from the floor (48.4 percent). The squad scored 38 points in the paint and registered 20 points off miscues.

The game was tightly contested in the early going and a Johnson lay-up gave the visitors the lead for good at 6-5. Although TBU pulled within one on multiple occasions moments later, a three-point shot from Stephon Auguste helped the Lions gain a 22-15 lead.

After a steal by Carl Dustan, Jackson laid the ball up-and-in for an 11-point margin, 40-29. Paine College would lead 44-33 at the break.

Trinity Baptist was unable to cut the deficit to double digits the rest of the way. Paine College extended the advantage to 19 on multiple occasions in the second half en route to the victory.  

The Lions return to action on Nov. 13 at Edward Waters. The game is slated to start at 4 p.m.
