AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Paine College men's basketball team dropped a hard-fought 106-102 contest to Clinton College Monday evening.
The Lions are now 1-5 on the season.
The Lions were led by
Nate Adams' 29 points and seven rebounds.
Quinnton Jackson added 28 points while
Ivan Lawson chipped in 21 markers.
Tied at 6-6,
Nate Adams drilled a jumper.
Quinnton Jackson's shot pushed the score to 10-6 at the 15:14 mark. Moments later, Jackson's three-ball off a pass from Adams helped the home team regain the lead at 13-12.
Clinton College pushed its margin to 14, 50-36, with 2:17 to go but Jackson's jumper with 31 seconds to play cut the deficit to 10, 50-40, at halftime.
Trailing 72-60 with 11:27 to go, the Lions cut the deficit to seven in 22 seconds after Adams converted an old-fashioned three-point play. Clinton extended the margin to 10 at the 10:37 mark but PC roared back, embarking on a 10-0 run. A lay-up by Adams tied the contest at 75-75 with 9:26 to go.
The back-and-forth affair saw Clinton take a 95-92 lead on a three-ball with just over three minutes to go. Tied at 99-99 after a deep three-point bucket from
Amarie Kirby, Clinton regained the advantage with a straight-away three-ball.
The visitors managed to pull away late with free throws.
The Lions return to action Saturday when they play at USC Beaufort at 4 p.m.
