AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Paine College men's basketball team rattled off a 104-86 victory over Toccoa Falls Saturday afternoon.
The Lions are now 2-8 on the season.
Amarie Kirby led the way with 22 points and five rebounds.
Nate Adams had a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds while
Elijah Greer-Dawson added 16 points.
Calvin Johnson totaled 14 points while
Ivan Lawson added 13 in the victory.
Trailing 15-8 in the early going,
Ivan Lawson hit a jumper in the paint. A three-ball from
Elijah Greer-Dawson off a pass from Adams cut the margin to two. Moments later,
Calvin Johnson's free throw made it a one-point game. Lawson's lay-up gave the Lions a 16-15 lead with 13:12 to play.
Down by six, 32-26, Adams buried a jumper.
Amarie Kirby's three-point shot off a pass from
Kole Taylor made it a 32-31 game at the 8:08 mark. Lawson's field goal with 7:41 to play gave PC the lead, 33-32. The Lions pushed the margin to three twice, including when
Quinnton Jackson found Greer-Dawson for a dunk on the break.
TFC led by six on a pair of occasions, including with 1:20 to play in the half. However, Taylor hit two free throws and a jumper down the stretch to pull within two, 51-49, at the break.
PC took over in the second half, hitting 21 field goals, including four from downtown. The Lions took the lead for good at 56-55 on a lay-up by Lawson at the 17:58 mark. PC increased the advantage to 12 on a three-point bucket with 11:24 to go and only let the visitors within 10 once the rest of the way.
For the game, PC hit 41-of-77 from the floor. The squad dished out 23 assists in the game and controlled the paint by outscoring the visitors 66-42.
The Lions return to action Dec. 30 when they host Huntingdon at 4 p.m.
