AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Paine College women's basketball team lost a 79-65 contest to Columbia College Monday evening.
The Lady Lions are now 0-6 on the season.
Head coach
Kisha Lucette's team was led by
Jada Brooks' 23 points, six rebounds and four assists.
Kyra McCrary added 15 points, nine rebounds and four assists.
Leia Brown tallied seven points and six boards while Deavin Pitt totaled eight points, seven rebounds and four steals in the loss.
Aamaria Wright got things going with a jumper just 29 seconds into the game but the visitors embarked on a 15-0 run.
Leia Brown broke the drought with a three-ball off a pass from Deavin Pitt. Down 18-5, Brown connected on a jumper to make it 18-7 heading into the second quarter.
In the second frame,
Jada Brooks' lay-up pulled PC within 10, 23-13. Moments later, she hit a free throw to make it a nine-point contest. However, the Koalas extended the advantage to 17 at halftime, 36-19.
Down by 20 early in the third quarter,
Kyra McCrary nailed a three-point shot. McCrary added an old-fashioned three-point play to pull the home team within 14 at 39-25. The visitors pushed the margin back to 20 a pair of times but Lucette's team continued to battle. Once again, the team sliced the margin to 14 at 59-45 on a jumper by
Jada Brooks with 27 seconds to play in the frame.
On multiple occasions in the fourth quarter, PC managed to cut the deficit to 14. However, the team could get no closer the rest of the way.
For the game, Paine College hit 23 field goals. The squad dished out 13 assists in the game.
The Lady Lions return to action Saturday when they host Carolina University at 2 p.m.
