Paine Cruises To Home Win

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Paine College men's basketball team registered a 92-73 victory over Toccoa Falls Thursday evening in the Heal Complex.

The Lions are now 8-13 on the season.

Quinnton Jackson led the way with 27 points on nine-of-14 shooting from the floor. He also snagged seven rebounds while recording four steals.

Elijah Greer added 17 points and pulled down eight boards. Jakobe Williams netted 15 points, totaled six boards and dished out five assists. Nate Adams had 15 points, six rebounds and a pair of blocks.

Calvin Johnson chipped in eight points in the victory.

Tied at 9-9, Williams nailed a three-ball and the home team never looked back. The Lions built the margin to double digits with 1:32 to play before halftime. Jackson was fouled and he buried both attempts for a 46-35 lead. Up by nine, Williams found Jackson for a three-point shot. Paine maintained a 51-39 lead at the break after a pair of Jackson charity tosses with three ticks remaining before intermission.

The Lions made it 60-39 just 1:36 into the second half when Jackson registered a steal before throwing down a thunderous dunk. Paine increased the score to 83-59 on a jumper by Williams with 8:14 to play and Taccoa Falls could get no closer than 15 the rest of the way.

For the game, Paine College netted 35-of-66 from the floor (53.0 percent), including six-of-14 from downtown (42.9 percent). The squad posted 17 points off turnovers, had 14 second-chance points and got 15 points off the bench.

The Lions return to action Monday when they close out the regular season at home against Voorhees at 7:30 p.m.
