AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Paine College softball team lost a hard-fought 12-9 decision to Lane Friday evening.

The Lions jumped on the board with two runs in the top of the first frame. Leidy Garcia singled in Emmy Segura for a 1-0 edge. Garcia moved to third on the play and came home on a sacrifice bunt from Arieyana Zachery for a 2-0 advantage.

Down 4-2 in the third, PC knotted the contest. Katherine Sugilio singled in Leticia Y. Omori. Then, Kamari Blackmon tied the game on a base knock up the middle, plating Sugilio. 

Down 5-4 in the fourth, Omori singled home Segura. A sacrifice fly from Sugilio made it 6-5. Brionna King's base hit scored Omori. Leading 7-5, Zachery scored on an error by the catcher for an 8-5 score.

Lane took a 10-8 lead going into the sixth inning. The Lions trimmed the deficit to 10-9 when Sugilio scored as King reached on an error. However, the designated visitors could not tie the game. Lane went on to add two runs in the bottom of the frame for the 12-9 win.

For the game, Omori and Sugilio each led the way with three hits apiece. King added two hits. King and Sugilio drove in two runs each. Omori, Sugilio, Segura and Garcia each crossed home twice in the contest. 

The Lions return to action Saturday for a pair of games – coming against Lane and Florida Memorial.
