Paine Drops Doubleheader To Edward Waters

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Paine College softball team lost a doubleheader at Edward Waters by scores of 6-2 and 8-3.

The Lady Lions are now 0-4 on the season.

In the opener, Paine fell behind 5-0 after the first two innings but made it a 5-2 game in the fourth.

Arieyana Zachery drove in a run while Destiny Lawrence, Leticia Y. Omori, Katherin Sugilio and Zachery each had hits. Omori and Sugilio each crossed home.

Montana Cagle threw a complete game and took the loss.  

In the nightcap, Sugilio led the way with three hits and one RBI. Omori, Emmy Segura and Leidy Garcia registered two hits apiece while Omori scored twice.

Brionna King and Omori each had one RBI. Omori tallied a pair of extra base hits – a double and home run.

Paine took a 1-0 lead in the first but Edward Waters scores three in the first and four in the second for a. 7-1 edge. The Lady Lions plated a run in the third but the home team got it back in the fourth. Paine cut into the deficit in the fifth with a run but it was not enough in the contest.

Lawrence and Cagle each saw time in the circle. Lawrence took the loss.

The Lady Lions return to action Sunday, Feb. 5 at Fort Lauderdale.
