Pitt's Free Throws Send Paine Past New College Of Florida
AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Paine College women's basketball team picked up a 58-57 victory Friday evening over New College of Florida in front of a tremendous crowd.
The Lady Lions are now 3-9 on the season.

Jada Mullinex's team-best 19 points.
Kyra McCrary added 15 points and five rebounds. Deejah Houck added eight points while
Jada Brooks tallied five.
Adewunmi Atiba snagged 12 rebounds.
Down 2-0, PC embarked on a 9-2 run. McCrary got things going with a jumper. She added a three-ball before a lay-up by Brooks pushed the score to 7-2. McCrary's jumper pushed the score to 9-4. The visitors took a 12-9 lead but Brooks answered with a three-point bucket. However, the Lady Lions found themselves down 18-15 after the first quarter.
Down 21-18, Mullinex hit a three-point bucket. Houck pushed the home team in front with two free throws at the 5:47 mark, 23-21. McCrary hit a free throw and
Myah Beasley canned a shot from downtown at the 2:02 mark. Houck's three-point shot extended the margin to 10, 31-21, with 36 seconds remaining en route to the 31-22 halftime advantage.
The Lady Lions saw their 17-point dwindle to just five points entering the fourth quarter. NFC tied the game at 48-48 with 5:12 to play.
The back-and-forth affair saw the visitors take a 57-55 lead with 45 seconds to go but Deavin Pitt hit one-of-two free throws with 18 seconds remaining. A turnover with eight seconds remaining allowed Paine College to take the ball. The home team threw a pass to midcourt and Pitt was fouled going for the pass. She calmly buried two free throws for the final tally.
For the game, Paine College hit 19 field goals – nine of which were from behind the three-point arc. The squad hit 11-of-14 from the charity stripe. The squad pulled down 40 rebounds. PC recorded 26 points off turnovers and tallied 10 second-chance points while not allowing the visitors any second-chance points.
The Lady Lions return to action Saturday, Jan. 27 at Carolina University. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m.
