PC Wins Overtime Thriller

BALDWIN, Ga. – The Paine College men's basketball team registered a 91-90 overtime win at Abraham Baldwin Saturday afternoon.

The Lions are now 3-3 on the season.

PC was led by Calvin Johnson's game-high 25 points. He added eight rebounds and a steal in 45 minutes of work. Quinnton Jackson posted 17 points, five boards and four steals while Jocqua Keaton totaled 14 points, seven rebounds and a block.

Khalid Johnson chipped in nine points while Kole Taylor added eight points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals. Najai Moody had seven points while Jaylen Dopson and Curtis Phillips added six and five, respectively.

The Lions jumped out to a 15-4 lead at the 14:26 mark after Jackson hit a three-ball and Johnson made a pair of charity tosses. However, ABAC took a 32-31 lead before Johnson twisted through for a lay-up with 3:08 to go. The home team took a 39-36 lead into halftime.

The back-and-forth contest saw PC snag a 48-43 lead off another bucket by Johnson with 15:08 to go. However, a 7-2 spurt by ABAC made the score 55-50 with 11:16 to play.

At the 7:16 mark, Keaton took a pass from Phillips and buried a shot from distance, giving the visitors a 65-59 lead. Jackson found Johnson for an inside bucket with 33 ticks remaining for a 77-72 margin. However, ABAC netted five points in 22 seconds, sending the game into overtime.

In the extra session, the home team took an 82-81 lead, but Keaton converted a lay-up at the 2:45 mark. Jackson hit a shot, but ABAC pulled within one at 85-84. Keaton found Taylor for a three-ball at the 1:18 mark.

Up 90-88, Taylor hit the first of two free throws. ABAC missed a three-pointer but scored an inside shot with three seconds to go for the final score.

For the game, PC hit 32-of-71 from the floor and six-of-21 from downtown. The squad also canned 21-of-29 from the charity stripe. The team forced 22 turnovers, and it resulted in 30 points.

The Lions return to action Saturday when they host Shaw at 7 p.m.
