AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Paine College volleyball team lost a 3-0 decision to Benedict to close out the regular season Wednesday evening.
The Lady Lions are now 9-11 on the season.
Head coach
Kisha Lucette's team was paced by
Najla Betts' team-high seven kills.
Jamaya Allen and
Kennedy Williams notched five kills apiece while
Akirah McCrae tallied three kills.
Makayla Evans,
Jamia Seals and
Kelsey Williams notched a kill each.
Kelsey Williams dished out 10 assists while
Chelsea Brooks accounted for four assists in the loss.
At the service line, Evans served up a match-high four aces.
Demi Mckeever posted two aces while Brooks,
Kayla Montoya and
Kennedy Williams each had an ace.
Defensively, Betts and McCrae had three total blocks apiece. Evans and Montoya tied for team-high honors with 10 digs each.
Kelsey Williams notched seven digs.
Down 15-5 in the first set, an error by Benedict gave the Lady Lions a side-out.
Kelsey Williams hammered home a kill before Evans notched a pair of aces. After a kill from Evans, she served up another ace, pulling the team within four at 15-11.
Trailing 17-12 in the third frame, Betts and McCrae posted back-to-back kills, but that was as close as the team could get the rest of the way.
