AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Paine College men's basketball team placed four student-athletes in double figures in the 89-78 win over Brewton-Parker Tuesday evening.
The Lions are now 7-5 on the season.
PC jumped out to a 6-3 lead after a jumper by
Najai Moody. A three-ball from
Kole Taylor and an inside shot from
Quinnton Jackson pushed the margin to 16-11 at the 15:23 mark. After an offensive rebound,
Calvin Johnson hit a jumper for an 11-point edge at the 11:50 mark.
The Lions pushed the advantage to 18 when
Calvin Johnson corralled a rebound and tipped it in rebound with 6:47 to go.
Amarie Kirby extended the margin to 20, 44-24, with 5:07 to go. B-P pulled within 17 with 22 seconds to go in the half, but
Jocqua Keaton buried a step-back three-ball at the buzzer for a 51-31 halftime edge.
A Jackson three-point bucket with 11:41 to play made it 70-48. However, the Barons embarked on a run to close the gap to just eight at 72-64 with 7:56 to go. Taylor found Keaton for a corner three-point shot with 4:12 to play, pushing the margin to 11, 79-68.
PC managed to stave off a feisty visiting team en route to the 11-point win.
The Lions were led by Jackson's 26-point, nine-steal effort.
Calvin Johnson scored 17 points while Keaton totaled 13 points.
Amarie Kirby netted 12 points while
Kole Taylor posted seven points, eight boards and 12 assists.
For the game, PC scored 36 points off turnovers. The squad hit 34-of-61 from the floor, including 11-of-23 from the three-point line. PC canned 10-of-14 from the charity stripe and snagged 30 boards. The team dished out 19 assists and recorded 16 steals.
The Lions return to action Dec. 13 when they play at Fort Valley State at 7 p.m.
