AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Paine College men's basketball team lost a 91-60 contest at Augusta Thursday afternoon.
The Lions are now 5-5 on the season.
PC was led by
Kole Taylor's 17-point effort.
Calvin Johnson added 12 points and five rebounds to go along with three steals.
Quinnton Jackson tallied seven points and nine rebounds while
Jocqua Keaton added seven points in the contest.
Curtis Phillips chipped in five points while
Amarie Kirby and
Jaylen Dopson added four and two points, respectively.
Trailing 12-9 just over five minutes into the game, Keaton buried a three-ball off a pass from
Najai Moody. Down 14-12, Taylor connected on a pair of shots form downtown, giving PC an 18-14 advantage.
Holding a 22-20 edge, Taylor converted a lay-up just prior to hitting a free throw for a 25-20 lead. Down 32-30, Keaton nailed two charity tosses with 1:19 to go but the Jaguars maintained a 36-32 margin at the break.
AU took a 48-38 lead before Jackson and Taylor made back-to-back buckets with 14:25 to play in the game. However, a 16-3 spurt by the home squad broke open the game in front of a frenzied crowd.
For the game, PC hit 18-of-65 from the floor, including six-of-25 from downtown. The team was nearly automatic from the charity stripe, drilling 18-of-21.
The Lions grabbed 12 offensive rebounds, which led to 13 second-chance points. PC scored 20 points in the paint and converted 11 turnovers into 15 points.
The Lions return to action Friday when they host Clinton College at 7:30 p.m.
