Paine Pushes Winning Streak To Four

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Paine College volleyball team swept a pair of matches Saturday, defeating Morris and Wesleyan by 3-0 scores.

The Lady Lions are now 6-3 on the young season.

Head coach Kisha Lucette's team cruised to the sweep against Morris by scores of 25-2, 25-6 and 25-5. The Lady Lions hit .476 in the contest, slamming home 34 kills against just four errors.

Najla Betts led the way with 12 kills and a .750 attack percentage. Soleil Johnson added nine kills while Jamaya Allen and Kennedy Williams had five kills each.

Jamia Seals dished out 19 assists and served up 13 of the team's 24 aces.

Kennedy Williams tallied six aces while Demi Mckeever totaled two. Makayla Evans, Chelsea Brooks and Betts all had one ace apiece.

In the nightcap against Wesleyan, set scores were 25-16, 25-15 and 25-15. The Lady Lions accounted for 37 kills with nine errors for a .292 attack percentage while holding the opposition to a .038 attack percentage.

Betts continued her stellar day with 10 kills in 19 attempts for a .526 attack percentage. Johnson garnered nine kills while Allen and Kennedy Williams each had five kills.

Kelsey Williams added 16 assists and Brooks distributed 10.

At the service line, Brooks had three of the team's nine aces. Evans and Mckeever each notched two aces.

Defensively, Kennedy Williams totaled four blocks while Kelsey Williams chimed in with two. Evans led the way with a match-best 22 digs. Kayla Montoya added six digs while Johnson and Kelsey Williams had five digs apiece.

The Lady Lions return to action Tuesday, Sept. 24, when they travel to Carolina University at 5 p.m.
