Dormu And McCrary Post Double-Doubles Against Carolina

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Paine College women's basketball team lost a 91-67 game to Carolina University Tuesday evening.

The Lady Lions are now 3-16 on the season.

Head coach Kisha Lucette's team was led by Adia Dormu and Kyra McCrary as each had 21 points and 13 rebounds for double-doubles. Dormu also had two steals while McCrary had three steals and three assists. Amaria Wright totaled eight points, five boards and three steals while Daiyah Ruger had six points.

Jayla Dendy tallied five points and five boards while Leia Brown amassed four points and five boards. Tamyria Countryman had two points, three rebounds and an assist.

Down 31-17 in the second quarter, Dormu hit a pair of free throws. A jumper by McCrary trimmed the deficit to 13, 34-21, at the 8:37 mark. McCrary netted the next four points while Wright had a bucket, slicing the deficit to seven, 34-27. CU pushed the advantage to 16 before Wright hit a lay-up. A pair of free throws by Dendy trimmed the deficit to 12, 49-37. The Lady Lions made it 51-39 at the break.

With the score at 53-42, Dormu nailed two charity tosses at the 6:09 mark. The visitors extended the advantage to 17 before Dormu hit an old-fashioned three-point play. A Dendy free throw made it 65-52. Ruger nailed a three-ball and McCrary hit a jumper, pulling the team within eight, 65-57. However, the Bruins made it a 10-point game entering the fourth quarter.

The Bruins managed to outscore the Lady Lions 23-9 over the final 10 minutes of action.

For the game, PC hit 22-of-73 from the floor. The squad buried 22-of-38 from the charity stripe and grabbed 52 rebounds, including 28 on the offensive glass. The team amassed nine steals. The Lady Lions scored 38 points in the paint and had 19 points off turnovers. Lucette's team had 13 second-chance points.

The Lady Lions return to action Saturday when they host Trinity Baptist at 2 p.m.
