Lions Race Past Johnson & Wales

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Paine College men's basketball team posted an 86-68 victory over Johnson & Wales Tuesday evening.

The Lions are now 15-5 on the season and have won 10 straight games.

PC was led by Quinnton Jackson's 19-point, eight-rebound, five steal effort. Jocqua Keaton added 14 points while Kole Taylor notched 13 points. Najai Moody and Amarie Kirby had 11 points and 10 points, respectively. Curtis Phillips notched nine points while Calvin Johnson and Kelvin Johnson totaled six points and four points, respectively.

For the game, the Lions made 35-of-75 from the floor, including 10-of-23 from the three-point line. The Lions snagged 39 rebounds, dished out 12 assists and had 14 steals. PC scored 44 points in the paint and netted 22 points off turnovers.

Jackson started the game off with a steal and dunk. A three-ball by Taylor pushed the margin to 5-0. Leading 18-17, Jackson found Kirby for a shot from distance at the 10:07 mark. JWU held a 33-29 lead before Phillips made a lay-up. He made a free throw, completing the three-point play to pull within one. Moody tipped in a shot and Jackson found Kiby for a three-ball. A pair of free throws by Jackson pushed the margin to six, 39-33. Just before halftime, Phillips made a three-ball for a 42-35 advantage.

A Keeton jumper extended the margin to double figures at 46-35. Five more points by Keeton made it 54-35 at the 16:48 mark. Up by 10, Phillips buried a three-ball at the 12:30 mark. Jackson made a lay-up with 7:10 to play for a 19-point advantage. Taylor converted a three-point play with 4:48 to play for an 83-62 edge en route to the 18-point victory.
