Lady Lions Split With Lincoln

AUGUSTA, Ga.
– The Paine College softball team split a doubleheader against Lincoln on Saturday, falling 13-2 before winning 7-6.

The Lady Lions are now 4-6 on the year.

In the first game, LU led 2-1 before scoring seven consecutive runs for a 9-1 advantage. PC plated a run in the fifth, but the Lions scored four more in the sixth.

Lena Sellam led the way with four hits and two runs scored. Alexis Mena had two hits and drove in Sellam both times. Ana Cobas, Difany De La Rosa and Emmy Segura all had hits.

Kayla Carter threw a complete game and had four strikeouts in the loss.

In the nightcap, a three-run seventh inning propelled the Lady Lions to the victory.

PC tied it at 1-1 in the first when Sellam scored on a passed ball. Nakeira Mallory singled in Cobas for a 2-1 edge. In the second, Sellam lifted a sacrifice fly to score Allana Adams.

LU held a 6-3 lead in the bottom of the fifth, but Cobas raced home on a single by Mallory.

Trailing 6-4, Cobas tripled home Sellam in the seventh. Mallory doubled home Cobas before Segura laced a triple for the game-winning hit.

For the game, Mallory had four hits and three RBI. Cobas and Segura had two hits apiece. Cobas scored three times while Sellam crossed home twice.

Difany De La Rosa went the distance and had three strikeouts in the circle to get the win.

The Lions return to action Wednesday when they play at Truett McConnell starting at 3 p.m.
