PC Drops Two At Truett McConnell

CLEVELAND, Ga. – The Paine College softball team lost a pair of games at Truett McConnell by scores of 4-1 and 11-1.

The Lady Lions are now 4-8 on the season.

Down 4-0 in the top of the fourth of game one, Nakeira Mallory ripped a single to right center field. Allana Adams followed it with a double to the gap in right center field, knocking in Mallory. However, PC was unable to push any else across in the frame.

For the game, Lena Sellam, Emmy Segura, Mallory, Adams and Difany De La Rosa all had hits. Adams accounted for a double and had the lone RBI while Mallory crossed home.

Kayla Carter went the distance in the circle and had a strikeout.

Game two saw the home team take a 10-0 lead in the second stanza. PC got on the board in the fourth frame, but it was not enough.

With one down, Ana Cobas drew and walk and moved to second on a base on balls to Mallory. Another walk, this time to Alexis Mena, loaded the bags. Segura rocketed a single to center field, driving in Cobas to make it 10-1. However, a pop-up ended the threat.

Truett McConnell added a run in the bottom of the fourth and PC was unable to push across any runs in the fifth, ending the game.

For the contest, Mallory, Segura and Anda Gonzalez tallied hits. Segura drove in the run while Cobas crossed home.

For the game, De La Rosa got the start in the circle and tossed two frames. Carter worked the final two innings of relief.

The Lady Lions return to action Sunday, March 2, when they play at Claflin for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
