Paine College Sweeps Florida National

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Paine College baseball team swept Florida National by scores of 4-3, 9-6 and 6-3.

The Lions are now 5-2 on the season.

In the opener, Domonique Page knocked in Vladimir Lemos on a single. Jhoel Melone crushed a round-tripper over the wall in left field for a 3-0 advantage.

A double by Cristian Batista pushed across Joe Ramsey for a 4-1 lead in the third stanza. FNU plated two runs in the seventh, but PC was able to shut the door.

Lemos and Melone led the way with two hits apiece. Melone drove in two runs in the win. Omar Yespes went the distance for the win. He struck out three.  

Game two saw PC score nine runs the first two frames for a 9-1 lead en route to the 9-6 victory.

Denny Daza tied the game by crossing home on a passed ball. Melone singled home Kaiden Wilcox before Camillo Martinez smacked a pitch, but an error made it 3-1. Pablo Rivera drew a walk, plating Melone. Another error by the visitors allowed three Lions to race home for a six-run cushion.

In the second, Rayvion Alexander reached on an error that Melone scored on. PC extended it to 9-1 when Martinez lifted a sacrifice fly that plated Alexander.

FNU scored two runs in the fifth and two more in the seventh, but the Lions managed to record the victory.

For the game, Lemos and Melone had two hits apiece. Martinez drove in two while Melone scored twice.

Lemos went the distance on the mound, posting four strikeouts while tossing a complete game to get the win.

A five-run third inning on game three was more than enough for PC in the series finale. Up 5-1 in the sixth, the Lions tacked on a run in the 6-3 victory.

Mason Roundtree opened the scoring with a two-run double. Juery Beato singled home a run before Martinaz drove in a run on a bunt. Beato scored on a wild pitch for a 5-0 advantage.

Batista had two hits while Roundtree drove in three. Page scored twice in the win.

Daza threw a complete game and had seven strikeouts in the win.

The Lions return to action Tuesday when they host ABAC for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
