AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Paine College softball team swept Columbia College Wednesday by scores of 7-4 and 10-9.

In the opener, Ana Cobas, Alexis Mena, Ana Gonzalez and Nakeira Mallory had two hits apiece. Mena recorded two RBI while Gonzalez crossed home twice. Mena and Mallory had doubles while Emmy Segura recorded a triple.

In the circle, Kayla Carter went the distance to get the win. She gave up four runs on six hits in the complete-game effort. Carter had a pair of strikeouts.

In the nightcap, PC trailed 6-3 in the second before tying the contest. The teams traded runs in the next two innings before the Lady Lions took the lead with a run in the sixth. Columbia College knotted the game int eh seventh, but the Lady Lions struck for the game-winning run in the eighth frame.

For the game, Mena led the team with three hits while Lena Sellam accounted for two hits and a team-best three RBI. Gonzalez knocked in two runs while Mallory and Sellam each crossed home twice.

Diffany De La Rosa got the start and tossed five innings. She gave up eight runs, but only three were earned. Carter tossed the final three innings of relief to get the win. She had a strikeout in the victory.

The Lions return to action Friday, Feb. 14 when they host Truett McConnell for a doubleheader starting at 4 p.m.
