AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Paine College softball team lost a pair of games to Carolina over the weekend by scores of 5-0 and 9-5.
The Lady Lions are now 5-11 on the season.
In the first game, the Bruins managed to score a run in the second, one in the fifth and three in the sixth.
PC managed to garner four hits in the contest.
Lena Sellam,
Ana Cobas,
Nakeira Mallory and
Kayla Carter had base knocks. Carter and Mallory had doubles for the home team.
In the circle, Marina Hinojosa got the start and went six innings. She had a strikeout.
Kayla Carter tossed two strikeouts in the final frame.
On Saturday, Carolina led 5-0 in the bottom of the second.
Emmy Segura singled, swiped second and scored on a base hit by Hinojosa.
Down 6-1 in the fourth, Segura got things going with a single. After stealing second, she was able to race home when
Leidy Garcia recorded an inside-the-park round-tripper.
Trailing 6-3 in the sixth, Garcia singled and moved to second on an error. After a sacrifice bunt, Garcia crossed home on a base hit by
Ana Cobas. Two batters later,
Kayla Carter singled in Cobas to pull within one.
The Bruins tacked on three runs in the seventh for the four-run win.
For the game, Cobas, Carter, Segura and Garcia had two hits apiece. Garcia drove in two and scored twice. Segura scored twice as well.
In the circle, Carter went the distance and had a strikeout.
The Lady Lions return to action Saturday, March 15, when they play at Trinity Baptist.
