TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Paine College baseball team swept a doubleheader at Stillman on Tuesday, winning 15-11 and 12-7.
The Lions are now 12-4 on the year after winning the last five outings.
PC jumped out to an 8-1 lead through three innings and never looked back.
Dominique Page singled in
Denny Daza to open the scoring. Moments later,
Jhoel Melone's infield single plated Page.
Up 2-1 in the second, Page belted a grand slam. A Juery Beato single knocked in
Cristian Batista for a 7-1 edge. Melone's double down the line in the third extended the margin to seven, 8-1.
Rayvion Alexander ripped a single up the middle, plating Madson Roundtree and Beato for a 10-1 advantage.
Holding a 10-3 edge, Beato drove in Batista with a single in the fifth. A bases loaded walk to Daza pushed in Roundtree before
Vladmir Lemos singled in two for a 14-3 lead. Melone's solo blast in the sixth extended the margin to 10, 15-5. The home team scored six runs, but
Fabio Warff closed the door.
For the game, Page, Melone and Beato had three hits apiece. Page led the way with four RBI while Melone knocked in three. Nine different student-athletes scored a run.
On the mound,
Omar Yepez got the start and picked up the win while tossing 4.1 innings. Warff tossed the final 2.2 frames.
Game two saw the Lions take a 5-0 lead through the top of the third. Melone singled home Daza and Lemos to get the scoring started. Batista's groundout allowed Page to cross home. Roundtree's grounder pushed Melone home for a 4-0 advantage. With the score still at 4-0, Beato singled home
Joseph Ramsey for a five-run cushion.
Leading 5-3 in the fifth, Batista crushed a home run to right field. Daza drew a bases loaded walk, pushing across a run. Lemos singled in Beato and
Carlos Delgado. Page doubled in a run and Melone knocked in Lemos on a groundout. Page scored on a wild pitch for a 12-3 margin.
Stillman scored four runs to push it to 12-7, but that was as close as the team could get.
For the game, Lemos, Page, Roundtree, Beato and Delgado had two hits apiece. Melone drove in three.
On the mound,
Emmanuel Martinez got the start and picked up the win. He had four strikeouts.
Christian Tibadijo tossed two frames and had five strikeouts.
The Lions return to action Friday when they host Fort Lauderdale for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
