SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Paine College softball team split a doubleheader at Spartanburg Methodist, winning 12-4 before falling 4-3 in the nightcap.
The Lady Lions are now 11-17 on the season.
PC jumped out to a 10-0 lead through the team's first four at bats and never looked back. The squad plated two runs in the first, five in the second, one in the third and two in the fourth.
Ana Cobas had a tremendous outing, going five-for-five with two RBI and three runs scored.
Emmy Segura and
Kayla Carter notched three hits apiece.
Dara Ayovi Sr., posted two hits, three RBI and scored twice.
Lena Sellam drove in three while Segura crossed home three times.
In the circle,
Kayla Carter went the distance and had six strikeouts to pick up the victory.
Game two saw the Lady Lions record two runs in the first frame off the bat of
Nakeira Mallory's two-run shot.
Tied at 2-2 in the third,
Allana Adams scored for a one-run margin. However, the home team plated a run in the sixth and one in the seventh for the victory.
For the game, Mallory led the team with two hits and two RBI.
In the circle, Carter worked six frames and had three strikeouts.
Marina Hinojosa Jr., had a strikeout in the seventh.
The Lady Lions return to action Saturday when they play at Columbia College for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
