AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Paine College softball team split with Tuskegee on Friday, winning 9-1 before falling 7-4.
In game one, PC jumped on top with a run in the first when
Lena Sellam scored on a double by
Emmy Segura.
Tied at 1-1 in the third,
Ana Cobas crossed home on a
Dara Ayovi Sr., triple. Ayovi crossed home on a sacrifice fly by Sellam for a 3-1 advantage.
The Lady Lions broke it open with a five-run fifth frame. Ayovi doubled home Cobas before crossing home on a single by
Nakeira Mallory. Moments later, Sellam scored on a passed ball before Segura doubled home Mallory.
Alexis Mena's groundout allowed Segura to score for an 8-1 lead.
PC put the game away in the sixth when Mallory doubled home Sellam for the run-rule victory.
For the game, Mallory and Sellam had three hits apiece while Ayovi Sr., and Segura had two hits. Ayovi Sr., Mallory and Segura had two RBI each while Sellam scored three times.
Kayla Carter threw a complete game and had three strikeouts. She gave up one unearned run on two hits.
Game two saw the visitors take a 2-0 lead before Cobas singled home Mena to cut the deficit in half in the second.
PC grabbed a 3-2 lead when Segura tripled home Sellam. Carter followed it up with a groundout that plated Segura for a one-run cushion.
Tied at 3-3, the game went to extra innings. Tuskegee plated four runs in the eighth while the home squad managed a run on a Mena single that scored Mallory.
For the game, Cobas and Mena had two hits apiece.
In the circle,
Marina Hinojosa Jr., worked five innings and had two strikeouts .
Difany De La Rosa tossed the sixth while Carter worked the final two frames and had a strikeout.
The Lady Lions return to action tomorrow for a doubleheader at Columbia International.
