JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Paine College baseball team knocked off Trinity Baptist 9-5 Friday evening.
The Lions are now 13-4 on the season.
Rayvion Alexander walked and moved to second on a
Denny Daza single in the third inning. With the bases loaded,
Jhoel Melone lifted a sacrifice fly to right field for a 1-0 advantage.
Tied at 1-1 in the fifth, Daza reached on an error and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Denny Page singled, pushing Daza to third. With both runners in scoring position,
Cristian Batista singled, allowing both to race home.
Down 4-3 in the seventh, Lemos drew a one-out walk and moved to second when Page was hit by a pitch. A walk to Melone loaded the bases. Batista reached on a fielder's choice, pushing across Lemos. A base hit by
Mason Roundtree drove in Page. After a couple of changes to the defense,
Jeury Beato singled in Batista for a 6-4 lead.
PC tacked on to the lead in the eighth when Melone doubled in Daza and Page. The visitors tacked on a run in the ninth when Beato crossed home.
For the game, Daza led the way with three hits. Batista and Beato had two hits in the contest. Batista and Melone each drove in three while Page scored three times.
Emmanuel Martinez got the start and worked five frames. He struck out eight.
Fabio Warff tossed the final four innings and had three strikeouts to get the win.
The Lions return to action tomorrow for the final two games of the series starting at 1 p.m.
