Name: Deja Jontia Sims-Dean

Birthplace: Columbia, S.C.
Career Goal: To become a nurse.
High School: Sims-Dean attended Blythewood HS in Blythewood, S.C. While at Blythewood, won four varsity letters and she played volleyball and ran track. As a member of the volleyball team,Sims-Dean helped her team become undefeated. Her honors include Rookie of the Year, Best Defensive Player and Best Offensive Player.
Personal: Sims-Dean is the niece of Staci Dean...chose Paine because of the volleyball program.

Community Involvement: Reading to young children, working at a recreation center, and volleyball training.
Do you have any superstitions which affect your athletic performance? I read my good luck messages, listen to music until playing time, and crack jokes with the team.
What person has been the most inspirational to you and why? The person who has been most inspirational to me is my aunt, Staci Reed, because she has always been my support system. She is my MVP.
What person do you admire most and why? The person I admire most is once again, my aunt, Staci Reed because she is hard-working. She’s the reason I am who I am today.
What is best advice you have received? The best advice I ever received was that attitude and confidence is key to everything you do. Be positive and believe you’re just as good if not better than the rest.
What advice would you give to a young student-athlete? Advice that I would give to a young student-athlete is to never let someone tell you that you can’t do something. Determination plays a major part in everything you do. Never be cocky, and always confident. Just because you think someone isn’t watching, doesn’t mean it’s true. Your hard-work could always motivate someone else.
