AUGUSTA, Ga. (Women's Basketball) – The Paine College women's basketball team fought valiantly but couldn't hold off the Tritons of Eckerd College. The Lady Lions fell to Eckerd with a score of 63-45 in their Saturday matchup.
With the loss, the Lady Lions move to 1-5 on the season. Eckerd, a Peach Belt Conference program, advances to 6-2.
Paine was led by center
Delisa Sharpe with 15 points while
Jemetria Fletcher finished with 10. Fletcher showed her defensive tenacity around the rim with four blocks. In the rebounding category,
Brianna Simms and LaShonda Canty each had seven total boards for the night. Simms, Sharpe and
Tannasia Rhodes each had two steals. Rhodes and Kiandra Guiliford each had three assists.
As a team, the Lions finished the night with 34 total rebounds, five blocks and eight steals.
Rana Thomas was the catalyst for the Tritons with a 21 point and four steal performance. Kayla Bowlin was second for the team in points with 12 and led the team in assists with five. Ivana Grbic made her presence in the center felt with 10 total rebounds.
As a team, Eckerd finished with 50 total rebounds, and nine steals.
Paine will return to action on Monday, Dec. 15 at 7 p.m. as they face the St. Augustine's University Falcons in the HEAL Complex.
