AUGUSTA, Ga. (Women's Basketball) – The Paine College women's basketball team rallied back from 11 points behind at halftime to defeat Fort Valley State, 81-66.
With the win, the Lady Lions move to 5-11 overall and 3-5 in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. The Lady Wildcats drop to 6-13 on the season and 4-4 in league play.
Janisha Wilkerson continues her amazing play with a 21-point performance.
Tannasia Rhodes produced a double double with 15 points and led the team in rebounds with 10. She also led the team in assists with eight. Wilkerson and Rhodes accounted for one block each.
Lasharon Salahuddin had the fastest hands of the night coming up with four steals.
As a team, the Lady Lions finished the night with 44 rebounds, 18 assists, nine steals, and two blocks. The team was 41.4 percent from the field, 20 percent from the arc, and 65.6 percent from the free throw line.
Brittnee Hazel led the way for the Lady Wildcats with a double double of her own. She scored 14 points and accounted for 14 rebounds. Hazel also finished the night with three blocks. Katice Williams and Carmenonique Williams came in second with 13 points apiece. Antionna Jefferson led the team in assists with five and in steals with four.
Fort Valley finished the game with 44 rebounds, 11 assists, 10 steals, and four blocks. As a team, the Lady Wildcats were 39 percent from the field, 21.1 percent from the arc, and 55.2 percent from the free throw line.
The Lady Lions will continue play on Saturday against Albany State at 1:00 p.m. in the HEAL Complex.
